Norval R. Hadley, Former Executive Director of EFM, passed away peacefully on December 28, 2024 in Stanton, CA. He was 96 years old. Norval’s first wife, Mary, son David, and daughter, Marilyn, preceded Norval in death. He is survived by his daughter Marcia Hadley, current wife Carol Hadley, and grandchildren Canaan, Beulah, Stephanie, and Julie.
As Executive Director, he led with distinction:
- He served from 1992 to 2001.
- He emphasized prayer. He was a man of prayer and did much to encourage prayer for EFM’s missionaries and fields.
- He continued to do this even after he stepped down as director.
- He focused on unreached people groups. New ministries were started in South Asia (especially northern India and Nepal) and the Middle East (the Twaddell’s ministry).
- He helped Friends Southwest become involved with EFM.
- He authored several books, one of which shared stories from the 1994 genocide in Rwanda. It is entitled Rwanda: In the Trail of the Red Horse.
Throughout his lifetime, Norval also served in influential ministries:
- He traveled the world singing tenor with the highly reviewed Four Flats Gospel Quartet.
- He served as Superintendent of Northwest Yearly Meeting.
- He worked for World Vision in several executive positions, including prayer director.
- He collaborated closely with America’s National Prayer Committee for many years.
- He pastored several churches and served as Chaplain at Rowntree Gardens.
- He played golf often and well.
For all his accomplishments, however, most of us knew Norval as a faithful and humble man who excelled at being an encouragement and inspiration to those around him. He mentored countless leaders. My life is richer because of Norval’s influence. My experience is far from unique. We will miss him and are deeply grateful for his life.
Because of the Hope of the Resurrection,
Stan Leach
Executivce Director
