The Balkans – Help Wanted
NWYM and EFM are looking for individuals, couples, and families to serve in The Balkans. We are looking specifically at the region of southern Croatia, southwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina, and western Montenegro, all formerly part of Yugoslavia. The Croat, Bosniak, Serb, and Montenegrin people in this region speak dialects of the same language and have many cultural similarities. In this part of the world, religion is the main ethnic divider, though it rarely goes deeper than a cultural marker. There are very few evangelical believers here.
We are looking for the following people, but not limited to the following people:
- People willing to take time to build trust in a community, recognizing that it may take a year or two before people recognize that you are staying and begin to trust you
- People with a background in business who can start a viable business to: serve the community, create credibility, build relationships, employ teammates as means for visas
- People with a background in healthcare: to address real regional needs, to build relationships, to provide visas
- People with a heart for discipleship who can lead Bible studies, provide one-on-one discipleship, and train others to be disciples making disciples
- People with experience in Christian camps, especially on the administrative side
- People with experience in and passion for church planting
- People with experience in counseling, especially focused on marriage/family, trauma, and addiction
- People willing to work unusual hours to reach immigrant communities, many of whom work long hours at night
- Individuals able to come on tourist visas for up to three months at a time to help nanny the Liddell’s children while they are in language school.
We envision a team of several individuals, couples, and families who are committed to unity as a team, to working in harmony with believers of other denominations, and to bringing the Prince of Peace to a people who are haunted by long memories of past grievances. We long to see the confidence of hope in the Faithful One grow in the hearts and minds of these precious people. We dream of churches committed to being the body of Christ in their communities. Maybe God is drawing you to be part of this work?
