By November 2024, EFM had made a commitment to launch seven of the nine fields that were under exploration. Those seven fields are now moving on to the prayer and pre-launch planning phases. Meanwhile, we are currently still sending Luke 10 Exploration Teams to consider other potential fields, one of them being unreached people groups in Southeast Asia. You can learn more here.
A 10:2 Prayer Trip is an annual trip to the mission fields where EFM has committed to sending missionaries. Teams are asked to pray for the soil (Matthew 13:1-23) and pray for the workers (Luke 10:2). Teams are sent or guided by sponsoring regions/yearly meetings of the new EFM fields that have been leading exploration. 10:2 Prayer Trips will target appropriate communities for prayer walking and interceding that “the Kingdom come, and God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven” in those places.
In October 2024, a 10:2 Prayer Trip took place in the Persian Gulf States. The following is a report written by team member Zach Bohler.
Who Was on this Trip & Where Did We Travel? |
There were eight total on this team: Ian Davison (Orange Friends Church), Andrew Blackburn (Winona Friends Church), Beth Sarrica (Morningside Friends Church), Zach Bohler (Orange Friends Church), Doyle Hartman (Orange Friends Church), Amanda Dudley (Friendswood Friends Church), Jacelyn Jones (EFC-ER retired missionary), Matt Chesnes (EFC-ER Multiplication Director).
The Gulf States 10:2 Prayer Team traveled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 8-16, with three goals in mind:
Obedience to Luke 10:2 by praying for workers for the harvest in the Persian Gulf.
Connect EFC churches with the Persian Gulf field through the prayer team so we would become “mini-ambassadors” upon our return.
Seek relationships and potential ministry partnerships on the ground.
Most of our time was spent in and around Dubai, with short trips to Abu Dhabi and Khor Fakkan.
A Few Trip Highlights |
Grant, an American serving in the city, introduced us to a labor camp market area in which many foreign workers live, buy, and sell. We were able to pray over the market and the people there.
Aaron, a staff pastor at Fellowship Dubai, filled us in on the thriving gospel environment that currently exists in this part of the world. We also heard about an internship program at the church that might be a resource for potential workers.
Roman, a leader in the Nepali church who we spent time with on our first two trips to Dubai, updated us on the church, his family, and the difficulties for Christians who have come to the UAE.
Bonaldi and Yen, an Indonesian couple living in the city, introduced us to their pastor, Yen-Li, and were great blessings to us as they acted as hosts and tour guides for much of our trip.
Nisin, who came to Christ in the English-speaking church in Dubai, shared with us recent highlights and challenges from the thriving campus ministry he helps lead.
What Did We Discover on Our Trip? |
Dubai has an overwhelming need for the gospel, with people coming from all over the world; there are massive opportunities with an openness unmatched in the Arab world and champions across EFC-ER who are passionate about seeing workers sent there. This trip was an immense help in increasing our understanding of what is happening in the UAE and what it will take for us to send people there.
What Are the Needs? Who Should Go? |
People need to have their hearts turned from the idolatry of success (money, power, escape from their home countries) and toward Jesus. Finding someone whose career could go with them to Dubai and work while making disciples would be a big benefit.
We need individuals, couples, or families with a pioneering spirit, a heart for the nations, an entrepreneurial skill set, and a gift for developing leaders.
