Greetings Prayer Warrior and Friends,
A New Work in Palawan
God has opened the door for us to help plant a new church restart in Tagnipa, Palawan. We also refer to this place as “Paradise Found.” It is truly beautiful and pristine.
Basically, the church was abandoned (without a pastor) three years ago and the members invited Pastor Goodyfredo to minister to them on a monthly basis. Last year they asked Pastor Goodyfredo about the Friends Church, so he and Pastor Pedro both shared who we were. Eventually the group asked to join with the Friends Church, this then led to a formal process of prayer, discernment, and discussion about who Friends were and what we believed. After almost a year, it was decided it was time to talk face to face. So, on March 31 we met for prayer and discussion with the members, along with Pastor Cris (PEFIM), Pastor Pedro, Pastor Goodyfredo (Tabon Friends), and myself (EFM).
The outcome was that Tagnipa will affiliate with PEFIM as a Mission Point under the sponsorship of Tabon Evangelical Friends Church and Pastor Roy from EFM. Our church planting pastor is Pastor Goodyfredo, who is the cousin of Pastor Pedro from Tabon, which is also the sponsoring Church. Pastor Roy will provide that ministry context for ministry to the Muslim community which makes up half the village of Tagnipa. Initial meetings show a healthy relationship between the Christians and Muslims. What was also remarkable was that two sons of one of the members married two Muslim women who will also be part of the new Mission Point.
I will now be traveling more to Palawan to aid in this work and give training to Pastor Goodyfredo and the members of Tagnipa and Tabon Friends. We will return on August 2nd for our next trip.
Purok Uno
Our Partnership with Silangan Friends Church in Purok Uno has moved ahead very well. We have a dedicated team of parents, one of whom is a teacher committed to this outreach. God has used the ESL class to provided direct access to the community of both Muslims and Christians. The results of this has been that we are able to talk about God in our Common Bridges approach. Recently, at the year one graduation ceremony, we invited the local Imam to offer the opening blessing and Pastor Manny from Silangan the closing blessings. The end result was that the Imam wanted to know what religion we were from. This opened the door for us to share that we were following Jesus the Messiah. This has also given us the opportunity to begin sharing more in our ESL program. The new crafting/dental/hygiene materials provided by the Christmas Catalog project will be used in coordination with this outreach. It will be a great help and provide more connections between Silangan Friends Church and Purok Uno.
Please keep us in your prayers that we will continue to see what God’s will is in sharing the truth of Christ through both these efforts.
In Christ’s Service Together,
Jinky and Roy
