Those seven fields are now moving on to the prayer and pre-launch planning phases. Meanwhile, we are currently still sending Luke 10 Exploration Teams to consider other potential fields, one of them being unreached people groups in Southeast Asia. You can learn more here.

A 10:2 Prayer Trip is an annual trip to the mission fields where EFM has committed to sending missionaries. Teams are asked to pray for the soil (Matthew 13:1-23) and pray for the workers (Luke 10:2). Teams are sent or guided by sponsoring regions/yearly meetings of the new EFM fields that have been leading exploration. 10:2 Prayer Trips will target appropriate communities for prayer walking and interceding that “the Kingdom come, and God’s will be done on earth as it is in heaven” in those places.

In November 2024, a 10:2 Prayer Trip took place in South Sudan. The following is a report written by team member Kevin Hoppock.

We travelled to the country of South Sudan, not to be confused with the neighboring country of Sudan, is the newest country in the U.N. We traveled to Juba, the capital of South Sudan. From there, we made a couple of trips to a nearby new suburb, Juba Two, which is where we sense that the mission may first get established. We also made a day trip by flight to Kapoeta, which is in the Eastern Equatoria part of the country where the unreached Toposa People continue to practice animistic religions.

In Kapoeta, Annonciata made a divine connection with a key Rwandan shop owner who is deeply connected to the Rwandans who enter the country. She was able to pray over him and exchange numbers. She also was led to the outskirts of Kapoeta where we found a large gathering of women. Communication was difficult, but we were able to visibly extend love and joy. Annonciata has a beautiful and skillful way of engaging women even despite language barriers.

One morning, we all went to the top of our seven-floor hotel, where we had a view of the city of Juba. We then spent a powerful time together in prayer over the city.

Our corporate times of prayer were sweet; however, for those of us who are not African, to be present in the neighborhoods where the mission may soon start was limited due to the concern that the presence of foreigners might create misunderstood expectations. Even with that limitation, the Rwandans on the team were able to walk, pray, and make connections in Juba Two, and the rest of us were able to engage and pray with a few families in Juba Two and with a few business owners in Kapoeta.

We invite you to join us in prayer…

For more workers from EFM in the U.S. and from the Friends Church of Rwanda. South Sudan is ripe for the harvest!

For EFC-Rwanda as they challenge themselves to send well. They plan to send their first missionary family, Nicodeme, Annonciata, and Joy Basebya, in the summer/fall of 2025.

That the EFC-Rwanda missions-sending framework be strong in prayer, care, finances, and strategy, as well as for discernment in training and coaching.
For this missionary family’s logistics, such as housing in Juba Two, adequate support systems for the family in transition, and appropriate school choices for Joy, who is due to begin “secondary school” in fall 2025 (grades 7-12 in traditional boarding school).

For EFM’s partnership with EFC-Rwanda in starting this new mission field. May the Lord Jesus get the glory, the nations get the gospel, and the church get the good life!

Jesus made his Father’s name known to his disciples and to those he encountered so that the Father’s love would be in them, as he would be in them. Because his people are known by their love. Over the last months, we have been greatly blessed by that love as we have visited many of you in your home churches.

Since our last newsletter, we visited three more churches in northwestern Oregon, attended my grandpa’s memorial service, and had a few days with some extended family around Thanksgiving. In each church we visit, we learn just a little bit about the ways that congregation is being God’s hands and feet to each other and in their community. You are such an encouragement to us! Feeding the hungry, serving your neighbors, making disciples in prisons, giving care packages to the homeless, and providing a safe place for children after school, God is working through you. May you continue to be faithful and to see the goodness of God!

All of us needed this slower time, where we could have more of a routine. Fred is seeing some encouraging things at work, starting with the hiring of a new IT director who will come on full-time in January. The kids are doing “school,” playing, coloring, singing, reading.

We hope that next Christmas we’ll be in the Balkans! In the meantime, we need more monthly financial partners, more prayer partners, and wisdom as we prepare to go. Please pray, and if you feel drawn to join with us, please do so!

In October 2024, a 10:2 Prayer Trip took place in Ecuador. The following is a report written by team member Maria Giron.

Our team arrived in Quito. The Prayer Team visited and prayed at the following locations. These are all Shuar communities or cities with Shuar presence. They were: Taisha, Yas Nunka, Nunka Nunkui, Macas, Sucua, San Joaquin, and Mendez.

Jose asked the team to go visit a Shuar man that he met at a bus ride going to the Shuar communities deep in the jungle. This Shuar man told Jose that he would like to hear more about the message from God. When the team arrived at his hut, he was not home; even though he was not there, the team started praying for this family and prayed for the whole community; while praying, a woman came, and she was the daughter of Jose’s friend. She introduced us to the whole family, and she offered for Jose to come to teach the word of God to the entire family. What a way for God to confirm that he wants Friends to be part of the ministry of reconciliation between the Shuar people and God.

The team walked across a river to a community where Jose started a kid’s ministry. Even though that day was not the usual day that Jose goes to teach the Bible, while the team started praying for this community, many kids came running to greet us. We had a beautiful time playing, teaching, and praying for these kids and their families. They left very happily after we gave each kid a lollipop. We all fell in love with these precious Shuar kids.

In October 2024, a 10:2 Prayer Trip took place in the Persian Gulf States. The following is a report written by team member Zach Bohler.

The Gulf States 10:2 Prayer Team traveled to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from October 8-16, with three goals in mind:

Obedience to Luke 10:2 by praying for workers for the harvest in the Persian Gulf.
Connect EFC churches with the Persian Gulf field through the prayer team so we would become “mini-ambassadors” upon our return.
Seek relationships and potential ministry partnerships on the ground.
Most of our time was spent in and around Dubai, with short trips to Abu Dhabi and Khor Fakkan.

Grant, an American serving in the city, introduced us to a labor camp market area in which many foreign workers live, buy, and sell. We were able to pray over the market and the people there.

Aaron, a staff pastor at Fellowship Dubai, filled us in on the thriving gospel environment that currently exists in this part of the world. We also heard about an internship program at the church that might be a resource for potential workers.

Roman, a leader in the Nepali church who we spent time with on our first two trips to Dubai, updated us on the church, his family, and the difficulties for Christians who have come to the UAE.

Bonaldi and Yen, an Indonesian couple living in the city, introduced us to their pastor, Yen-Li, and were great blessings to us as they acted as hosts and tour guides for much of our trip.

Nisin, who came to Christ in the English-speaking church in Dubai, shared with us recent highlights and challenges from the thriving campus ministry he helps lead.

People need to have their hearts turned from the idolatry of success (money, power, escape from their home countries) and toward Jesus. Finding someone whose career could go with them to Dubai and work while making disciples would be a big benefit.

We need individuals, couples, or families with a pioneering spirit, a heart for the nations, an entrepreneurial skill set, and a gift for developing leaders.

Edwin and Maria Giron | Missions Mobilizers for Hispanic Friends

Edwin and I can testify to you that it is truly worth serving Jesus Christ, living for him, and being obedient.

The Lord has allowed us to lead 10:2 prayer trips to Mexico and Ecuador and to be able to see and even touch the need in fields that are ready for the harvest. One of the many ways that God shows up on these tremendous prayer trips is how he so wonderfully opens doors and has led us to know the person of peace in different places where he has allowed us to reach.

His name is Juwan. They have heard the Gospel before from a wife’s relative who lives very far from them. Juwan and his wife have since been hungry to know more about the word of God. The team traveled four hours by dirt road deep into the jungle to get to this remote Shuar village called Nunkui.

When our prayer team arrived at Juwan’s house, he was not home. So, the team stopped there in front of his hut, and we decided to pray for this Shuar man and his wife and this Nunkui village, even though they were not present. The team prayed that God would open doors for Jose to start a church in that community. While each of us on the team took time to pray, something exciting happened: a woman approached us and told us that she was Juwan’s daughter! We told her that we were Evangelical Christians and that we came to pray for the Shuar community. Surprised but very happy to hear who we were, she told us that a few years ago, she, her husband, and her children heard the Gospel, accepted Jesus, and even witnessed by a public testimony of baptism, but that it had been a long time since they had gone to a church because they live very far away from the nearest town and it is not affordable for them to travel.

Missionary Jose offered to come every Friday to have Bible studies with them, and he only asked them to allow him to set up his camping tent on their land. The family was so happy with Jose’s offer that they even offered him a place not on their land but a space inside their house so that Jose could spend the night every time he came to speak to them about the Word of God.

Incredibly, this event was a quick answer from God to our prayer! Now, Jose is coming weekly to gather with three families who are so happy to be able to study the Word of God. Praise the Lord!

Now, Friends, we invite you to pray that these people would become a Shuar church that worships God in spirit and truth and become disciples of Jesus who bring the good news and make more Shuar disciples for the honor and glory of God.

We are simply so grateful to have been part of this beginning of God’s work in which He has involved us, Friends.

In obedience to him

Thank you so much for your encouragement and prayers as I continue working towards this journey and ministry in Southern California! Whether you’ve already committed to partnering with me or are considering joining this mission, I’m deeply grateful for your support and interest in the work God is doing. I wanted to continue sharing with you about the things that I will be doing and the things your partnership and support will be investing in!

Beginning on January 6, 2025, I will be entering a discipleship apprenticeship in which I will be weekly engaged in evangelism at college campuses, teaching young Christians and non-Christians what the gospel is, as well as discipling young Christians to share their faith and engage in the public sphere with their faith through Bible dialogues and prayer walking. I will be a full-time apprentice for the duration of the ten months in order to emphasize and focus intently on what God will teach me in and through this apprenticeship for the relatively short period of time I will be in this position. For this reason, I am looking for financial partners who can support my living and ministry expenses while I participate and mature in this ministry. I’m also looking for prayer partners who can commit to supporting me through their prayers as I work to pursue God’s will in this time.

I am blessed to be welcomed into this ministry and apprenticeship, and I’m eager to step into the ministries God is preparing ahead of me! Thank you for your encouragement and prayers as I prepare for this, and may God bless you in the good works established for you as well!

With love and peace,

Ivan Penrose

You can support me through prayer and financial giving. I need and appreciate both so that I can reach 100% in both areas before starting my apprenticeship. My goal is to have 250 prayer partners. If you know anyone who would like to pray for my apprenticeship, please forward this form to them.

I am currently looking for financial supporters to support me through October 2025. Would you please prayerfully consider supporting me as I begin my apprenticeship in January 2025?

We joined them for worship and fellowship and were subsequently invited to the home of the first believer from the tribe. We had the blessing of hearing her testimony and learning of how God has been at work in this unreached people group, as well as the kingdom work that is ahead of them. God is powerfully at work, and he is moving in the hearts and lives of this church, leading them to hopeful discussions of bringing the Gospel message to neighboring tribes.

This group consisted of Scott Sward, a missionary from CMA, and several locals. They initially gathered in order to pray for God to provide opportunities to reach unreached people group 2, as they are a far more remote people group typically located deep in the forest along the river. After months of dedicated prayer, they noticed an influx of groups, from said people group to a nearby village. This came as a result of a drastic decline in fish which was costly as a people dependent on the river. Following the prayer time, we joined the missionaries for an appointment with the chief to discuss the possibility of medical outreach towards unreached people group 2. After receiving approval, there was additional favor shown from God as we met with a provincial leader who provided access to an empty building within the village to carry out said medical outreach. The power of prayer was very evident over these interactions. The next steps for Scott and the missionary from CMA are to supply the medical outreach needs.

We discovered that there is an immense opportunity to carry out kingdom work in northeast Cambodia. God has opened various doors and shown favor at various points (both during our trip and prior). We set out to discern if there was opportunity among one unreached people group and found that there were, in fact, opportunities toward three.
