In 1996, with the help of World Renewal, EFC-ER began a church planting ministry in Hungary that then spread to Serbia, Croatia, and Romania. Much of this ministry has been among groups of gypsies. Two key families in this ministry have been Tony and Agi Frei who are based in Tolna, Hungary, and Voicu and Ana Marian who up until recently were based in Romania. Since 2019 the Friends ministry in this part of Europe has been under the care of EFM. In Hungary, there are three Hungarian churches: Tolna, Pécs, and Budapest. There are also other missions and churches for Gipsy people in Hungary, Croatia, and Serbia. There is EFC charity work in Ukraine and Slovakia, that works with sister churches in Ukraine and Slovakia.
