Part of our Small Business Development (SBD) strategy
Business as Mission is one of the primary ways we live out our Small Business Development work.
While SBD is the broader strategy, BAM is how it takes shape—through real businesses that serve people, create opportunity, and support ministry in everyday life.
Business as Mission engages in God’s work through sustainable, ethical enterprises. These businesses create jobs, build meaningful relationships, and reflect Christ’s love in practical ways. Through this approach, people are empowered, communities are strengthened, and the Gospel is lived out in both word and action.
Small Business Development (SBD) is the strategy. Business as Mission (BAM) is one way that strategy is lived out.

Equipping Leaders Through Small Business Development
Small Business Development (SBD) is the foundation that equips leaders to engage in ministry through business.
Through SBD, evangelical Friends churches around the world receive practical training that prepares pastors, evangelists, and church planters to start and sustain businesses as part of their ministry.
Business as Mission (BAM) is one expression of this work, where those skills are put into practice through real businesses that create opportunity, build relationships, and open doors to share Christ.
This approach not only supports ministry but also strengthens local communities through meaningful, sustainable work.
What This Looks Like in Practice
Through this approach, leaders are able to:
- Launch small businesses that support their ministry
- Create jobs within their communities
- Build relationships with people who may not otherwise engage with the church
- Demonstrate the love of Christ through daily work and interaction
Each business becomes more than an income source—it becomes a platform for ministry, discipleship, and long-term community impact.

Working Together for Greater Impact
We partner with global disciples because of their proven approach to Small Business Development (SBD) as a tool for ministry and church planting. Through this partnership, leaders are equipped with practical skills that allow them to sustain themselves, serve their communities, and share the gospel through everyday work. This model creates lasting impact because:
- Business creates natural, daily opportunities to build relationships and share Christ with those who may never enter a church
- Leaders can support themselves and their families, reducing dependence on outside funding
- People with business skills can directly engage in mission, using their experience to strengthen both ministry and community
Together, this approach equips leaders and empowers local churches to grow in ways that are both spiritually and economically sustainable.
