B. and D. A. are retiring from almost 30 years of missionary service with EFM in Nepal. They have left behind a large group of churches that are faithful to the Lord Jesus, sustainable in regards to their own leadership and economic resources, and are also constantly evangelizing and planting more churches. B. and D. look forward to staying in touch with them and making occasional visits in the years to come. In the meantime they are getting ready for a few months of deputation which will give them the opportunity to spend time with many like you who have been praying for them and giving towards their financial support.

Roy and Jinky retired from their 28 years of missionary service under EFM at the end of 2021. This spring they are in the US to meet with and thank those that have supported their ministry.

During their visit we would like to bless them with a financial love gift. We invite you to participate by contributing to the gift. We also encourage you to read this letter prepared by Duane Comfort, former Associate Director of EFM. As you will see in the letter, Duane has been a part of Roy and Jinky’s work from the beginning!

Roy and Jinky Twaddell, with their children, began exploring ministry possibilities with Evangelical Friends Mission when I was on staff in the Arvada, Colorado office. They came to EFM with a desire to minister to unreached people, especially Muslim people in limited access countries and had a people group named that they felt the Lord was leading them to. Jinky, being a trained Dentist, planned to use her skills to reach people wherever the Lord led. It was interesting to note that the EFM Board had just stated a new goal to identify and begin ministry to unreached people, so a working relationship was begun in the early 1990’s. Twaddell’s at the time had done much prayerful research and felt led to “Go into all the world and preach the Gospel to all creation” and felt a call to minister to an unreached people group in Iran. Working with people in a restricted country is very difficult, but with much prayer and persistence, contact was made with a Muslim Background believer from the group they were targeting, and a relationship was established. In the process of meeting people from the group, the Twaddell’s moved to several different countries and began discipling believers from the group. Roy became very adept at communicating with these people on the internet, in a day when that kind of ministry was barely beginning to take place. He and Jinky learned to contact people individually, disciple people on the internet in small groups and even hold worship services with people from that language group. The worship times included people from several different cities and even countries and through this method, several worshiping groups began to form. (Those of us in the States might be able to relate to this type of worship better since COVID-19 hit, as we learned to worship online as well for a few months.) Throughout their ministry they found many obstacles popping up, but they continually persevered, praying for God’s help, leading, wisdom and to supply their needs. He has been faithful! In the last few years, they have been working from the Philippines, Jinky’s home country, but still in contact with people from around the world. As you may have heard by now, Roy and Jinky Twaddell are retiring at the end of this month (December) from 28 years of missionary service with EFM. When we first announced their retirement in June of this year the Twaddells had hoped to be in the U.S. by now to thank their prayer and financial supporters in person. Shortly thereafter Jinky became seriously ill with COVID-19 and is still recovering from it. The plan now is for Roy and Jinky to come to the U.S. in the spring of 2022 for what might be called a “retirement celebration tour,” and then return to the Philippines where they still plan to live out their retirement years.

When an EFM missionary retires we usually encourage their financial supporters to continue supporting them for an additional three months in order to fully fund their support and transition costs (Twaddells have been underfunded lately). This is the case with Roy and Jinky. If at all possible, please continue your financial support for them until the end of March 2022.

Another thing we like to do for EFM missionaries who are retiring is take up a love offering for them. Donations for the love offering for Roy and Jinky can be made now. Please mark it “Twaddell Retirement Love Gift” when you make that donation. As the retirement celebration tour draws near in 2022 we’ll send out a reminder about the love offering.

In closing, we and the Twaddells would like to express our appreciation to all those who gave to help cover Jinky’s COVID treatment costs. It touched all of our hearts deeply to see how quickly and generously those gifts came in. We also encourage you to be praying about who else the Lord would have you support once your giving to Twaddells comes to an end. We will send further information in February about how to do this kind of reallocation of giving, but you are welcome to contact the EFM office at any time to request changes to your recurring giving.

This summer, while Voicu and Ana Marian have been in Ohio, we have been celebrating the 21 years of faithful service that they have given to our Lord in Romania. At the same time the Marians have been wrapping up their missionary service under EFM and making arrangements for retirement. Now they are getting ready to return to their home in Romania. If all goes as planned, they leave October 1.

As you will see in their message below, Roy and Jinky are feeling led to retire from EFM at the end of this year. Lord willing, the Twaddells will travel from the Philippines to the U.S. around October of this year and spend time with those who have supported them along the way through prayer and finances. It will be a time to celebrate what the Lord has done! Then they will return to the Philippines where they plan to live and continue in ministry as the Lord opens doors for them to do so. Since the world we live in is still feeling the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, please pray that this visit to the U.S. will be possible.

During the 1980s Ana, and then Voicu, came to the Lord through the ministry of Evangelical Friends in Alliance, Ohio. They were from Romania but living and working in the U.S. at the time. After they gave their lives to Christ they heard him calling them back to the country from which they came. Voicu and Ana, along with their two children, Christina and John, obeyed the Lord’s call and returned to Romania in the year 2000.  They settled in the region of Sibiu where the Lord has used them to touch the lives of many, many people over the last twenty plus years. They have sown a lot of Gospel seed and they rejoice every time they see signs that it is bearing fruit.

As you can see from their message below, Voicu and Ana are retiring from missionary service and plan to be in Ohio this summer. We are looking forward to celebrating with them what God has done in and through them. Please hold them in your prayers as they get ready to travel and as they go through this transition called “retirement.” It’s not an easy transition to make, but they are feeling that it is time to do it.

Voicu and Ana, on behalf of EFM I want to thank you for your obedience to the Lord and your faithfulness in the ministry he has given you. There is no doubt in my mind that you will continue to minister wherever you live. You can’t help it!  It’s so much a part of who you are. We look forward, along with you, to seeing how the seed you have sown and are sowing will continue to bear fruit.
