1. Kathurani Friends, Nuwakot: Two people have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior.
2. Amptar Friends, Nuwakot: Nine new believers took a public testimony of baptism. There are three home cell groups as well as a group that prays every morning in the church an hour.
3. Darbung Friends, Gorkha: Two people have accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior. Eight new believers took a public testimony of baptism and now 11 house churches are being conducted.
4. Kathmandu Friends: There are a couple new believers added. All the ministry is online. Through online ministry, many new people are reaching out the gospel in and out of Nepal. We conducted a Pastors and Leaders Seminar on the theme of “I am a Gardener.” We also distributed relief food packages for 70 families who lost their jobs because businesses have closed down and labor work is unavailable. Thankfully the local church members provided funds.
5. Kathmandu Regional Meeting: Just one day before lockdown was imposed, Kathmandu Regional meeting had been held in Saurah, Chitwan.
6. COVID relief packages have been provided to 101 families.

1. Kuleni Friends, Nawalpur: Started church building by faith, little by little, the land is donated by its Pastor Jit Narayan.
2. Relief Packages: In partnership with EFM funds, they distributed Rice to 35 families.
3. Evangelization and Fellowship: Despite the COVID Pandemic, they had evangelism programs and fellowship.

1. Eight people took a public testimony of baptism.
2. Tapariya Friends, Bardiya: Church building completed to some extent. They can gather together and have fellowship without getting scorched by the sun or getting wet by rainfall.
3. Surkhet Friends, Surkhet: Started church building by faith. The land is donated by its Pastor, Amrit Sunar.
4. COVID relief packages were distributed to 110 families.

1. COVID Relief: With the funds from EFM, Bhandara Friends and Jhurjhure Friends, they have distributed relief food packages to 334 families.
2. Ministry: All the ministry is being held physically in person and online.

1. Weekly regular fellowships are being conducted via zoom due to COVID-19 Pandemic.
2. Blood Donation Program had been held as a yearly event on Good Friday. They distributed relief food packages to 49 families in this province.

During the lockdown, due to COVID 19 pandemic, we are continuing to conduct physical classes. One of the students went through many problems and we all were at risk of transmitting the sickness, but by the divine grace of God we all are safe.

Worship services, youth meetings, pastors and leaders seminar, prayer meetings, combined worship services, healing prayers, evangelism, etc. took place via Zoom, Facebook live, YouTube, and Messenger.

1. Gospel sharing by various ways and church growth holistically.
2. Gorkha’s Pastor Rudra Dawadi’s resettlement and Parkhal Friends members resettlement due to flood and landslide.
3. Protection of Associate Pastor Adam Subedi’s home from landslides.
4. Complete recovery of COVID positive pastors and leaders and believers, so that there will be no post COVID symptoms.
5. To plant new churches and cell groups in all provinces.
6. For provision and finances for church buildings to be completed soon. For more church building to be rebuilt as members increased in number and more new church buildings to begin build.
7. Pastors and evangelists’ financial needs for their children’s school fees. Let God open the ways for finance, so that they will not be distracting from their call and vision because of physical and financial needs.

• Hay muchos testimonios de quienes han recibido paquetes de ayuda. Tres hermanas de los Amigos en Kathmandu se encontraban en una situación crítica. El dueño de la casa donde vivían exigía un alquiler extra y no tenían dinero para pagar. Algunos de sus familiares les prestaron dinero para que pudieran salir de casa. No tenían nada que comer. Encontraron una pequeña cabaña de láminas de zinc para quedarse gratis. No tenían jabón para lavarse las manos después de ir al baño. Llegaron al punto de rechazar a Dios. Un día, Dios le mostró a mi esposa, Raquel, una especie de visión sobre ellos. Se sintió guiada por el Espíritu Santo a llamarlos. Llegó a saber que no estaban lejos de la iglesia. Sin avisarles fuimos a su casa con paquetes de ayuda (arroz, 3 tipos de lentejas, soya, aceite de cocina, sal, fideos, jabón de lavar, jabón de baño, galletas, hoja de té, azúcar, etc.). Habían perdido la esperanza y no esperaban ayuda. Alguien nos dijo que esa misma noche adoraron y alabaron a Dios. Ellas dijeron: “Dios está aquí y vio nuestras necesidades”. Al día siguiente llamaron a Rachel para darle las gracias. Preguntaron: “¿Cómo supiste de nuestra condición?” Ahora ellas se encuentran bien. La mayoría de las veces, cuando preguntamos a las personas si necesitan algo para comer, no se muestran dispuestos a decirnos acerca de sus necesidades.

• Una de nuestras iglesias de Los Amigos en Nuwakot tuvo que utilizarse como centro de cuarentena. Nuestro pastor y líderes deben cuidar a los enfermos, proporcionando materiales de salud e higiene para quienes se quedan en nuestra iglesia.
• Otro desafío al que nos enfrentamos: si alguien se enferma, es peligroso ir al hospital. Muchos de nosotros estuvimos y estamos enfermos, pero tomamos analgésicos y tomamos algunos medicamentos comunes de las farmacias y nos quedamos en casa.
• El ministerio continúa de estas maneras: servicios de adoración, oración en compañerismo y ministerio de jóvenes a través de Zoom, Messenger y Facebook en vivo. The president of Evangelical Friends Church-Nepal (EFC-N), Amen Thapa, sent us this update to share with you. This is the yearly meeting that John and Sangi Vanlal started just over 25 years ago along with Amen and several other leaders. There are approximately 40 churches in this yearly meeting and they are located in many different areas of Nepal.

• One of our Friends churches in Nuwakot had to be used as a quarantine center. Our pastor and leaders have to take care of them, providing health and hygiene materials for those staying in our church.
• Another challenge we are facing: If anybody gets sick it is risky to go to hospital. Many of us were and are sick but we are taking pain killers and taking some common medicine from pharmacies and just staying home.
• The ministry continues in these ways: worship services, prayer fellowship, youth ministry via Zoom, Messenger, and Facebook live. Our Bible training is also going well via Zoom and other social media. We are conducting combined worship throughout Nepal as well as pastors and leaders seminars and combined youth fellowship once a week. I am busier than normal.

Doing all these things, we are blessed, and many non-Christians are receiving the gospel. There are many who are ready to give public testimony of their faith through water baptism.

Hemos estado recibiendo algunas historias de nuestros misioneros y líderes nacionales sobre lo que Dios está haciendo en medio de la pandemia. Estamos compartiendo estas historias con ustedes deseando que sean de animo y también recordarles el seguir levantando a nuestros hermanos y hermanas en Cristo alrededor del mundo en oración.

Esta historia proviene del pastor Amen Thapa, presidente de la Junta Anual Iglesia Evangélica Amigos-Nepal EFC-Nepal (por sus siglas en ingles). Amen y su familia viven en Katmandú.

Cuando COVID-19 comenzó, estábamos preocupados porque se hablaba de muchos síntomas diferentes y muchos de nosotros teníamos algunos de ellos. ¡Gracias a Dios que ninguno resulto positivo de COVID-19!

Toda nuestra gente perdió su trabajo y algunos de nuestros miembros se enfrentaron a la falta de alimentos y dinero para el alquiler. Incluso algunas iglesias tuvieron dificultades para pagar su renta. Afortunadamente, algunos de los miembros de nuestra iglesia con buenas condiciones financieras pudieron brindar alivio a los que tenían mas dificultades. Pudimos proporcionarles necesidades básicas (comestibles, artículos de aseo personal y dinero para alquiler y medicinas). EFM también ha proporcionado fondos de ayuda para que nuestras pesadas cargas fueran disminuidas. Nos gustaría expresar nuestro sincero agradecimiento a todos los que han apoyado y donado.

Se sentía tan extraño no poder reunirnos físicamente en nuestra iglesia. Era difícil saber cómo avanzar y no sabíamos qué pasaría con el ministerio y nuestros miembros. Tampoco sabíamos si sería posible conectarse y si podríamos contactar a los miembros. Con el paso del tiempo, Dios nos dio sabiduría e ideas para continuar su ministerio.

Personalmente, nunca sentí que yo era bueno con las redes sociales y siempre he tratado de evitar dar mi entrevista a periódicos y revistas cristianas. Pero ahora, al menos una vez a la semana, estoy predicando en  medios como Zoom, Facebook, Messenger, etc. Antes del cierre, prediqué en persona a al menos 150 personas, ¡pero ahora predico a entre 1,000 y 2,000 personas porque se unen a la página de nuestra iglesia todas las semanas!

También tuvimos, a través de Zoom y Facebook en vivo, una maravillosa y bendecida Conferencia Juvenil virtual 2020. Proporcionamos internet para la mayoría de los participantes de la región. Se reunieron para ver en vivo más de 500 personas de 12 países, incluido Nepal. Ahora tenemos más de 4,000 espectadores en la página de Facebook de nuestra iglesia. También planeamos llevar a cabo una Conferencia para Mujeres, Capacitación de Escuela Dominical y una Conferencia de Pastores y Líderes en el futuro cercano. When COVID-19 first started, we were worried because there were so many different symptoms and many of us had some of them. Thank God that they did not result in being positive for COVID-19!

All of our people lost their jobs and some of our members faced lack of food and money for rent. Even a few churches had difficulty paying rent. Thankfully, some of our church members with good financial conditions were able to provide relief for those who were struggling. We were able to provide them with basic needs (groceries, toiletries, and money for rent and medicine). EFM has also provided relief funds so that our heavy burdens were lessened. We would like to express our sincere thanks to all the supporters and donors.

It felt so odd to not be able to meet physically in our church. It was difficult to know how to move forward and we didn’t know what would happen with the ministry and our members. We also didn’t know if it would be possible to be connected and if we would be able to contact members. As time passed, God gave us wisdom and ideas to continue his ministry.

Personally, I have never felt I was good with media and have always tried to avoid giving my interview to Christian newspapers and magazines. But now, at least once a week, I am preaching on media (Zoom, Facebook, Messenger, etc.). Before lockdown I preached among 150 people in person, but now I preach to 1,000-2,000 people because they are joining in on our church page every week!

We also had a wonderful and blessed virtual Youth Conference 2020 via Zoom and Facebook live. We provided internet for most participants from the village region. There were over 500 gathered from 12 countries, including Nepal, watching live. Now we have over 4,000 viewers on our church Facebook page. We also plan to conduct a Women Conference, Sunday School Training, and Pastors and Leaders Conference in the near future. We appreciate your prayers for these.

“Permítanme compartir algunos desafíos y oportunidades durante el bloqueo. Mientras estamos en el bloqueo, ayer nuevamente el gobierno de Nepal lo extendió 11 días mas.

Desafíos:

1. En este momento, nuestros pastores y creyentes tienen necesidades básicas. La iglesia es vista como una misión extranjera; en lugar de obtener alivio, se espera que lo brindemos.
2. En ciudades como Katmandú, la mayoría de los que viven en casas de alquiler no reciben los paquetes de ayuda del gobierno porque los propietarios deben firmar los formularios. Los propietarios no están dispuestos a firmar porque por esta ayuda el gobierno local les cobrará impuestos. Por lo tanto, no se nos permite recibir esta ayuda.
3. Algunos no tienen ciudadanía, por lo que no pueden recibir los paquetes de ayuda.
4. Aquellos de nosotros que alquilamos nuestras casas y alquilamos espacio para nuestras iglesias enfrentamos dificultades para pagar el alquiler ya que no nos estamos reuniendo en la iglesia. No hay ofrenda, ni diezmo porque no hay trabajo ni negocios. Aunque el gobierno ha decretado que no se debe cobrar el alquiler de viviendas durante al menos un mes, no podemos reclamarlo, de lo contrario los propietarios nos pedirán que salgamos de la casa. Esto sucedió ya con una de nuestras familias.

Oportunidades:

1. Los servicios de adoración en línea son una bendición para muchas personas. Cuando teníamos servicio regular en la iglesia, pastoreé un máximo de 150 personas que escuchaban la Palabra de Dios y oraban. Pero ahora, debido a los servicios en línea, hay más personas viendo y asistiendo (mínimo de 1000) tanto dentro como fuera del país. Están emocionados por estas oportunidades. Nos llaman y nos agradecen por los servicios.
2. Más personas tienen la oportunidad de escuchar el Evangelio. Una niña que experimentó posesión demoníaca habló con sus familiares para ir a nuestra iglesia en Nuwakot y al menos tres familias vinieron al Señor. Entonces, cuando termine el cierre, se habrá plantado una iglesia más.
3. Esta es una temporada de crecimiento espiritual para nuestros creyentes. Están leyendo la Biblia y pasan más tiempo en ayuno y oración. No tienen excusas para decir: “Estoy ocupado, no tengo tiempo para leer la Biblia, etc.”
4. Estamos aprendiendo a extender manos de ayuda a aquellos que son críticamente pobres y necesitados. Estamos aprendiendo a compartir lo que tenemos con aquellos que no tienen nada para comer.

Utilizaremos los fondos de emergencia de EFM para ayudar a nuestros pastores/evangelistas y creyentes a comprar alimentos y atender otras necesidades básicas. No hay fuente de ingresos en este momento. Algunos de nosotros recibíamos un apoyo parcial de las iglesias, pero eso no es aplicable en este momento.

“Let me share a few challenges and opportunities during lockdown. As we are in lockdown, again yesterday Nepal’s government extended it 11 days.

Challenges:

1. At this moment our pastors and believers are in basic need. The church is viewed like a foreign mission; instead of getting relief we are expected to provide it.
2. In cities like Kathmandu, most of those who are living in rental houses are not getting relief packages from the government because the landlords are required to sign forms. The landlords are not willing to sign because they will be taxed by the local government for this aid. So we are not allowed to receive relief.
3. Some do not have citizenship, so they are not allowed to receive relief packages.
4. Those of us who rent our homes and rent space for our churches are facing difficulty to pay rent as we are not gathering in the church. There is no offering, no tithe because of no job and no business. Though the government has made a decree not to take house rent for at least one month, we cannot claim it, otherwise the landlords will ask us to leave the house. This happened with one of our families.

Opportunities:

1. The online worship services are a blessing to many people. When we were having regular fellowship in the church I pastor a maximum of 150 people listened to the word of God and prayed.  But now, because of the online services, there are more people watching and attending (minimum of 1,000) both inside and outside of the country. They are excited for these opportunities. They call us and thank us for the services.
2. More people are getting a chance to hear the gospel. A girl who experienced demon possession spoke to her relatives to go to our church in Nuwakot and at least three families came to the Lord. So when the lockdown is over there will be one more church planted.
3. This is a season of spiritual growth for our believers. They are reading the Bible and spending more time in fasting and prayer. They have no excuses to say, “I am busy, no time to read the Bible, etc.”
4. We are learning to extend helping hands to those who are critically poor and needy. We are learning to share whatever we have with those who have nothing to eat.

We will use the emergency funds from EFM to help our pastors/evangelists and believers to buy groceries and address other basic needs. There is no income source right now. Some of us were receiving partial support from the churches, but that is not applicable at the moment.

We appreciate your prayer, care, and concern.”

¿Cómo está afectando COVID-19 a quienes viven en el área donde ustedes viven y ministran?

• Nepal se encuentra en un estado de encierro.
• El bloqueo ha estado afectando en gran medida nuestros viajes y necesidades diarias. Muchas cosas son limitadas, como propano, desinfectantes y mascarillas.

• Muchas de nuestras iglesias tienen la oportunidad de compartir el evangelio mientras realizan servicios de adoración en diferentes grupos celulares en diferentes áreas. Amigos en Bhandara y Amigos en Jhurjhure son buenos ejemplos de esto. De esta manera,     nuestro compañerismo se ha ampliado/ extendido.

¿Cuáles son dos o tres peticiones de oración que podemos usar para orar por ustedes y por aquellos que ministran?

• Por un despertar espiritual en este momento. Que nuestros miembros no pierdan su fe en Jesús ya que tenemos que quedarnos en casa durante este período de cuarentena. Oren especialmente por los nuevos creyentes.
• Por la buena salud, la sabiduría y el conocimiento de Dios.
• Por la situación financiera. Tenemos que comprar comestibles, propano y otras necesidades diarias. Oren especialmente por los ministros de tiempo completo ya que no tienen ninguna otra fuente de ingresos.

How is COVID-19 affecting those who live in the area where you live and minister?

• Nepal is in a state of lockdown.
• The lockdown has been greatly affecting our travel and daily needs. Many things are limited, like propane, sanitizers, and masks.
• Several Bible school students are stuck in Kathmandu and are living with us.

How is this situation affecting the ministry you lead?

We are worshiping in three ways:

• From 6 am to 6 pm there is a prayer chain for those of us who have access to the church building.
• There is a live, online service on our church page.
• We have fellowship by phone with those who do not have internet access (especially the elderly).

What are some opportunities you are seeing for sharing the good news of Jesus Christ with those who don’t know Him? 

• We who are Christians have opportunity to serve society, helping local government in the areas of cleanliness and sharing awareness.
• Many of our churches have opportunity to share the gospel as they are conducting worship services in different cell groups in different areas. Bhandara Friends and Jhurjhure Friends are good examples of this. In this way our fellowships have been expanded/extended.
• Church members are getting good time to read the Bible and pray.

What are two or three prayer requests that we can use as we pray for you and those you lead? 

• For a spiritual awakening at this time. That our members not lose faith in Jesus as we have to stay home during this period of quarantine. Pray especially for new fellow believers.
• For good health, wisdom, and knowledge from God to stay safe.
• For the financial situation. We have to buy groceries, propane, and other daily needs. Pray especially for full-time ministers as they do not have any other sources of income.
