Garry Norton Apprenticeship Update: March 2024

It’s finally March, and spring is just around the corner! As a gardener, spring is a very special time of year. After the last frost, we finally get to plant what we want after a long and cold winter. We see lovely spring flowers and the whole world turns green again. It’s a constant reminder of God’s faithfulness; if we remain in the true vine, we’ll bear fruit in time.

The past couple of weeks have been pretty hectic. My director Nick got struck by a car (thankfully he only broke his shoulder blade), and has been taking his time to rest. That being said, our schedule has been impacted. We still go and do campus evangelism twice a week, and we meet twice a week at the house to study the Gospel (on Wednesdays) and a book that Alan has for us (on Sundays).

I’ve spent a fair amount of time working with a local church in LA County and have been asked to work as director of the community garden there. It has so far been an excellent place to go and contemplate and reflect on all that’s going on around me and a great way for me to do my favorite hobby back home. I get to make friends with birds, lizards, and bees, and I get to connect with nature in the second-largest metropolis in the country. Above is one of the garden plots that I’ve been cleaning out as we get ready to invite people to come back in and garden again. Below is one of my friends that I made while gardening, and I call him Ernest.

Please be in continued prayer for Nick as he recovers, as well as the rest of the North County Project as we continue to adjust. As of today, I’m 94% fundraised, and I’m so thankful for all the support that I’ve received so far. I can’t imagine doing this without the amazing support from all of my friends and family.

By the Light,

Garry

You can support me through prayer and financial giving. I need and appreciate both so that I can reach 100% in both areas. I currently have 119 prayer partners and have a goal of 250. If you know anyone who would like to pray for me, please forward this form to them.

I am currently 94% fundraised for my ten-month apprenticeship. If you are a current monthly supporter, thank you. If not, it would bless me tremendously if you would sign up for a recurring gift. I am currently looking for financial supporters to support me through October 2024.

There are four ways to partner with me:

  • Online. Visit our personal support webpage at https://catalog.friendsmission.com/apprentice. Please select my name “Garry Norton” at check out. You’ll be given the opportunity to indicate whether you are making a recurring or one-time gift.
  • Credit Card. This may be given online (as stated above) or by calling the EFM office (303-421-8100) to give your information to a live person.
  • Automatic Bank Transfer. Download the form here and email it to Debby McElroy (EFM Bookkeeper) at debby@friendsmission.com. Please note that ACH payments are processed on the 10th or 25th of the month.
  • Check. Mail a check to EFM, P.O. Box 771139, Wichita, KS 67277. Make sure to mark your check “Garry Norton Apprenticeship Support” and note if you will be giving on a recurring basis (monthly, quarterly, etc.). Pay to the order of “EFM.”
